This is an excellent piece by Angela Cummings - it is bold, textured, and very easy to wear. The wide sterling silver cuff is made from tightly woven strips in a herringbone pattern, giving it a soft, almost fabric-like feel despite its weight. The polished end caps keep the look clean and modern, while the woven surface adds movement and character.
Cummings joined Tiffany & Co. in 1967 and, by 1974, presented her first full collection under her own name. She became known for using strong modernist shapes, unusual materials, and designs inspired by nature and movement. In 1984, she left Tiffany to start her own business. From the 1980s through the 1990s, her independent work became more sculptural and abstract.
This woven cuff is a good example of her later style. Rather than using stones or extra decoration, the main attraction is its construction. Hundreds of small silver surfaces catch and reflect the light on the wrist. Most of Angela Cummings' other woven sterling cuffs are dated to the 1980s, which is consistent with the style of this piece.
