A vintage Cartier Panthère pendant necklace in 18k yellow gold, circa 1990s. Cartier's great cat has prowled the maison since Jeanne Toussaint's day, but this is the panther at her most modern. The sculptural "molle" silhouette is sleek and faceted, draped mid-slink over the bail. The pendant hangs from its original elongated-link chain (also Cartier) in matching 18k gold, signed and numbered.
This iconic panther has a wonderfully fluid, sculptural form — hence molle, meaning “soft” or “supple” in French. Instead of the fierce, prowling panther we often associate with the house, this one feels more relaxed and slinky, almost draped in gold. The body has beautiful movement and dimension, with that unmistakable Cartier polish: sleek lines, rounded curves, and just enough feline drama.
