Psst - this ring has a secret. The richly colored sardonyx intaglio, hand-carved with a classic eagle, flips open on a hinge to reveal a hidden compartment underneath.

Yes, they're called "poison rings," but don't worry - back in the day these little hideaways were more likely to hold a keepsake, a dab of perfume, medicine or a lock of hair than anything sinister. Carved intaglios were all the rage with Georgian and Victorian Grand Tour travelers, who couldn't get enough of anything that looked ancient Greek or Roman.

Beautiful jewel, tiny secret keeper. A fab piece to add to one's collection!
