This antique 'poison' ring features a richly colored sardonyx intaglio, hand-carved with a classic eagle design.  The hinged bezel lifts to reveal a hidden compartment below, adding a touch of mystery to the piece.  While often called "poison rings," these secret spaces were usually used to hold a small keepsake, perfume, medicine, or a lock of hair.  Intaglio jewelry, inspired by ancient Greek and Roman carved gems, became popular again during the Georgian and Victorian eras, especially with Grand Tour travelers.  This ring is both a beautiful piece of jewelry and a tiny secret keeper!  A fab piece to add to one's collection.
