We love how this French lariat necklace is so well made and undeniably mid-century in design. Three rows of yellow gold links, which are closely articulated, lie nicely and flat around the neck and pass underneath a richly hued emerald set in a simple claw setting. Two spacers, set with diamonds, offer a little sparkle on the ends.
It is often referred to as a cravat or lariat necklace and was particularly popular in France in the 1940s and 1950s, when jewelry makers preferred a flexible gold design, strong overall shapes, and the use of gemstones. The craftsmanship in this piece is especially noteworthy: the links are flexible, well balanced, and the necklace lies comfortably.
