In the early 1900's, French jeweler Alphonse Augis created one of the earliest forms of love tokens when he paraphrased the famous 1889 poem "L'eternelle chanson." The original line reads “Car, vois-tu, chaque jour je t’aime davantage, Aujourd’hui plus qu’hier et bien moins que demain,” and translates to English as “For you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.”
Augis popularized "Qu'hier - Que Demain" as a motif on gold medallion pendants with a plus and minus sign, which have become some of the most collectible and sought-after pieces in the vintage and antique world. "Di Ieri Di Domani" literally means "of yesterday, of tomorrow" which is is another paraphrased version of the entire phrase. We don't see many of this iteration too often, even less so with the A. Augis stamps. This one by Uno A Erre is simple in make with a slightly textured background, making the sentiment the absolute star.
