When we first came across this bracelet, we fell for the colorful enamel work and that great link. A bit of research later, we found that it pays homage to Colonial Williamsburg: it's set with the British flag and the signs of three of its famous taverns, which visitors can still step inside today. Another link carries a flag with the Latin motto "Maior agit deus" ("a greater god is at work"), a line from Virgil's Aeneid spoken over a healing wound, which makes it a fitting motto for an apothecary sign. The last is emblematic of the Whigs, the name colonial patriots used for themselves in the years leading up to the Revolution.
We're not quite sure how old this particular bracelet is. Williamsburg itself dates to the 1600s (it became Virginia's capital in 1699), but the Colonial Williamsburg we know today began with the restoration of the town in 1926, and its famous Raleigh Tavern was rebuilt and reopened to visitors in 1932. Based on the style of the link and the clasp, this bracelet is likely from the late Deco era and was made as a souvenir/memento of sorts.
