A solid gold bracelet watch by Georges L'Engant for Boucheron Paris - does it get any better than this?
We found this watch (or is it a bracelet?) on our recent buying trip abroad and it really knocked the wind out of us. It is hefty and bold, wearing much like a beautiful woven gold bracelet with a sweet little watch face sitting front and center.
This bracelet watch is a great example of Boucheron’s jewelry-first approach to watchmaking. The tiny square dial is almost secondary to the bracelet itself, which is made in richly articulated 18K yellow gold with a fluid chevron weave.
The bracelet is by Georges L'Enfant, the celebrated Paris goldsmith known for producing exceptional goldwork for houses including Boucheron, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Hermès. His specialty was exactly this kind of technically complex, supple construction.
Dating to roughly 1965-1975, the watch has that unmistakable late-mid-century French look: substantial gold, clean geometry, and a discreet integrated dial. It wears as much like a bracelet as a watch, which is part of the appeal. The Boucheron Paris hallmark on the back of the dial is simply icing on the cake.
