RARE Vintage Monture 4.00ctw Old Mine Cut Diamond Ring, by Van Cleef & Arpels

Monture translates literally as “mount,” referring to the setting of the ring, but in the world of vintage/antique jewelry, the word means so much more.  During the 20th century, esteemed jewelry houses such as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels would create custom-commissioned rings for their select clientele, which they designated as “Monture”.  We’ve come across a few of these babies in our time, each one incredibly unique and reflective of the delicious craftsmanship and style of the respective jewelry houses.  This beautiful old mine-cut ring is a Monture by Van Cleef & Arpels, centering on a chunky old mine and an equally beautiful Old European cut, flanked by this twisty, ribbon-like motif studded with more old cuts.  It is almost like a princess ring in its presence and scale, offering a romantic design with the charm and character of old-cut diamonds.  It is such a special piece; we are quite fond of her.
