Elsa Peretti brought her famous heart designs to Tiffany & Co. in the mid-1970s, soon after joining the company in 1974. Back then, Tiffany was moving away from traditional, formal jewelry. Peretti changed everything with her softer, more sensual, and easygoing designs—jewelry you could truly wear every day.
Peretti came from a fashion background. She modeled in the ‘60s before she started designing, and you can sense that influence in her work. She had a talent for taking something familiar, like a heart, and simplifying it until it felt modern and almost sculptural. Her pieces were never fussy or overdone—just clean, flowing lines that fit naturally against the body.
Her Open Heart collection became one of Tiffany’s most recognizable designs. It was never about making a big statement. Instead, it focused on connection, comfort, and being easy to wear every day. That’s why these pieces have lasted for decades. They aren’t tied to any one era—they’re simply iconic in a quiet way.
