The gimmel ring dates back to the Renaissance: two or sometimes three interlocking bands that fit together like a secret puzzle. Lovers each wore a band and joined them at marriage as a sign of unity and devotion.

This one is engraved in French, "L.M Unis Le 17 Fevrier 1844" (united on 17 February 1844). Very few have survived the centuries, so finding one is such a treat. Rare, romantic and clever.
