This five-stone old European cut diamond ring is set in platinum and yellow gold, circa 1895–1910.  The center stone weighs 1.60ct and is flanked by four graduating OECs — totaling 2.62ct across the shoulders — with small diamond accents nestled between each stone (little diamonds couldn't hurt!).  The plain yellow gold shank tapers cleanly into the platinum setting, a hallmark of the Victorian-to-Edwardian transition when jewelers were beginning to fall in love with platinum but hadn't fully broken up with gold yet.

The mounting is especially charming - a warm yellow gold shank supports a platinum top, which was a popular design choice around the turn of the 20th century.  Jewelers used white metal around diamonds to make them look brighter, while yellow gold stayed popular for its warmth, strength, and classic appeal.

In style, this ring stands at the perfect point between the boldness of late Victorian design and the delicate touch of Edwardian jewelry.  The open, scalloped gallery looks almost like a crown, holding each diamond in a row of claw prongs.  It feels light and elegant yet sturdy, which was typical of the Belle Époque era, when jewelers began using lighter, more open settings to let the diamonds literally shine.

Five-stone rings were very popular during the Victorian and Edwardian periods.  People often choose them for engagement rings, anniversaries, or other special milestones.  The design stood for continuity, devotion, and a life beautifully connected.  Of course, the Victorians also appreciated how striking a row of diamonds could be.

This ring offers presence, history, and everyday wearability all at once.  It could be a stunning antique engagement ring, a meaningful five-stone anniversary piece, or an everyday diamond band that stands out from everything else in your jewelry box.  A true rarity these days!
