This antique diamond brooch is shaped like a scallop shell, with deep flutes set with graduated old-cut diamonds. Larger stones highlight the scalloped edge, while rows of smaller diamonds trace the shell’s ribs and lead the eye to a prominent old-cut diamond at the base. The combination of different cuts and slightly irregular facets gives the brooch a soft, lively sparkle that is unique to antique diamonds.
The scallop shell has been a meaningful symbol for centuries. In classical mythology, it is closely linked to Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, who was said to have come from the sea on a shell.
