Super beautiful and perfectly matched OECS are clearly the stars of this antique dormeuse earrings with delicate and feminine scallop design. The diamonds are both very white facing, and with so much life and sparkle to them (like little disco balls on the lobes!). Sits perfectly just under the ear lobes too - the way this style is meant to be worn.
Just so beautiful on the ears!

WHAT ARE DORMEUSE EARRINGS?
Dormeuse earrings have a beautiful and unique origin story in the world of jewelry.
The word dormeuse comes from French and is based on dormir, which means “to sleep.” These earrings were first made to be small and close-fitting, so they could be worn comfortably while sleeping. In the 18th and 19th centuries, women often wore their earrings all the time, so jewelers designed styles that fit snugly against the earlobe with secure hinged wires and little drop.
During the Georgian and Victorian periods, dormeuse earrings became very popular. They were usually:
* Front-facing (all the design visible from the front)
* Compact and balanced
* Designed with hinged lever-back closures
* Often set with old mine-cut diamonds, seed pearls, or colored gemstones
In the Victorian era, these earrings often had romantic and symbolic designs like hearts, flowers, and bows. By the Belle Époque, they became more refined and delicate, often made with platinum-topped gold and detailed diamond work.
What sets dormeuse earrings apart is not their shape, but their size and comfort. A true dormeuse fits closely to the ear, moves gently, and feels personal instead of bold.
Today, the word dormeuse suggests an old-world elegance, with antique diamonds, a soft glow, and a sense of heirloom charm. Collectors love them because they have history, are easy to wear, and feel quietly luxurious. They are the opposite of big, bold statement earrings.
In other words, they may be small, but they make a statement.
